Position Description
- The student research assistant for the FFAR Corn Study will provide support in a study of indigenous corn varieties and their climate adaptability. The research project analyzes the drought and heat resilience of Hopi corn planted in Tucson to better understand the impacts of climate change on heritage crops. Students interested in agriculture, natural resources, soil science, hydrology, and related fields should apply.
- Work schedules are adaptable to school schedules.
- Shifts are most often held in the early to mid-morning to avoid high temperatures.
- Must be a current UofA Student
Responsibilities
- Assist graduate student and supervisor in the continuation of a study on Hopi corn
- Plant seeds and harvest crop
- Collect data on corn phenology and health
- Data Entry
- Participate in community outreach events with study team
- Maintain fields through weeding using hand tools
- Maintain irrigation systems and adhere to turn-on/shut-off schedules
Hours
- Summer: 5-10 hrs/week | Academic Year: 2-5 hrs/week
- Onsite @ Campus Farm (Campbell/Roger)
Must have a car for personal transportation to the site
