IRES Library Book Spotlight: The Water Remembers by Amy Bowers Cordialis

This month’s IRes book highlight is the The Water Remembers: My Indigenous Family’s Fight to Save a River and a Way of Life by Amy Bower’s Cordalis. This is a great read and I highly encourage folks to check out this thought provoking story of Amy’s journey to free the Klamath River and the Yurok’s right to uphold fishing rights.This personal narrative was important for Cordalis (and for me personally, as belonging to a river tribe) in sharing their perspective and the active role they played in the fight for environmental justice, sovereignty, and maintaining the sacred relationship between the Yurok people and the Klamath River.

As a note: I highly recommend listening via audiobook if possible, as it felt like an auntie sharing their story, including a bonus interview and traditional songs being shared.
