On behalf of the team at Alianza Indigena Sin Fronteras, we formally invite you to attend the film screening of "Laberinto Yo'eme" directed by Sergi Pedro Ros. This 2019 film is a documentary on the contemporary injustices against water and land which directly impacts Yaqui indigeneity and the future.
The film will also include a post-movie discussion with Olympia Beltran Andrade, the former chairman of the Yaquis of Southern California, Olympia Beltran Andrade who has been instrumental in maintaining the relationship between the Yaquis of Southern California and the Yaquis in Sonora, Mexico.
Here at the Alianza Indigena Sin Fronteras we believe that healing is necessary for movement work. If we can't unlearn colonizer behavior, we're only repeating the same behaviors that the colonizers enacted centuries ago but it is still felt now. This is why we chose the film, *Laberinto Yo'eme*—it serves as a visual catalyst for discussions and conversations around gender-based violence in movement work and even at home. We hope to make this a family-friendly event, but we advise that the topic of gender-based violence can be triggering or cause serious distress, as we've collectively witnessed in media coverage related to Dolores Huerta.
If you plan to bring children- the Global Justice Center has toys and games for them to play with during the movie. However, we ask that noise levels remain low while the community watches the film. The AISF also has Yaqui coloring books adapted from various departments and projects from the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Adults and children will have the chance to doodle, color or even write notes during the film.
Outside food & drinks are welcome- please take advantage of the surrounding restaurants in South Tucson. El Torero is right next door to the GJC, and American Eat Co. is also a walking distance of the GJC. We will also be serving free popcorn!
