In June 2026, the Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board hosted their bi-annual Research Conference, a gathering for researchers and health practitioners doing work with or on the Navajo Nation, as well as community members. Dr. Renee Tsinigine and Dr. Majerle Lister both presented the research activities they have been doing on Navajo Nation.

Dr. Tsinigine is a postdoctoral fellow with the NIH T32 program and has been working with the communities that have been impacted by the Peabody Coal Mine in Black Mesa. She presented the preliminary results under the research protocol NNR-25.563: Socio-economic and Heath Impacts of Coal Mining and Well-being of Diné Residents within the Peabody Coal Leasehold Area using the Diné Health Model. Dr. Lister is a former PhD student with IRes who was conducting data analysis and results dissemination about focus groups that were held for Diné first responders and front-line workers during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2022. He presented results from his work under the research protocol NNR-21.398: Assessing Navajo COVID-19 Risks and Increasing Indigenous Resilience.
